I’ve been blogging about personal development for almost seven years. In that time, I’ve learned a tremendous amount about productivity, time management, and goal setting. I’ve used some of the things I’ve learned to help me become more efficient and have created tools for better organization.
Yet I still struggle with many facets in the personal growth arena.
It seems simple to write down a goal. But achieving it is a different story. It seems simple to plan out a day, but sticking to the schedule is very hard at times. It seems easy to organize my office, but when I get going it’s hard to make decisions.
In my conscious mind, personal development is easy.
In reality, productivity, time management and goal setting are difficult.
I’ve beat myself up over the years, calling myself lazy and ineffective. I’ve tried many different approaches and had limited success.
Some days I’ve felt like giving up and shutting down the blog.
I’ve felt like surrendering.
Closing my eyes and putting up the white flag.
To be real honest, some days personal development sucks!
Yet last week, I picked up a new audio book that gave me incredible insights.
It gave me a clue to my failures
It gave me hope.
It’s simple really…
I’m the victim of my habits.
It turns out that up to 40% to 60% of my daily activities are habits being played out.
While I may feel in control, the habit overrides.
Unless I can change the habit, I’m doomed to repeat it.
That new goal… might as well forget it.
That new diet… doomed to failure.
Organization… not a chance.
Exercise… not happening.
Writing… no way.
However…
Habits can be changed
Bad ones can be replaced
Things can finally change for the better
If you know the secret.
I used to think I knew the answer.
That I could magically create a habit in 21 days.
But I was wrong. I didn’t know about two crucial things.
Two things so powerful that half our lives revolve around them.
Next week we’ll look into the new science of habit change and discover…
The secret to changing our lives for the better.
Stay tuned…
